Research that Matters: Robotics Research to Improve the Safety of Assembly and Mater

“The UNC Charlotte SSR-RC site is the only NSF I/UCRC focused on Robotic Technologies for Human Safety in Material Handling, Manufacturing and HealthCare industries.”

As the newest site in the National Science Foundation-funded I/UCRC for Safety, Security, and Rescue Research Center (SSR-RC), The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking to partner in research with manufacturing and material handling industry stakeholders.

Manufacturing and material handling partners are drawn to join the UNC Charlotte SSR-RC as members to leverage and expand their investment in robots (AGV’s, for example) for automating assembly and material handling processes.

The UNC Charlotte SSR-RC assists site members to conduct multi-disciplinary research on computation-driven robotic and sensor systems augmented by big data analysis to improve the safety, capability and well-being of their assembly and material handling employees.

The UNC Charlotte SSR-RC Mission:

  • To collaborate with industry on developing material handling, manufacturing and healthcare technologies through research partnerships
  • To do research that matters. For example, coordinating AGV’s in the presence of dynamic obstacles to improve human safety
  • To leverage and expand SSR-RC members’ investment
  • To train exceptional talent for you to hire
